| Butler Hospital’s CEO Elected President of National Forensic Psychiatry Organization |

The American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law (AAPL), has announced that Patricia Ryan Recupero, JD, MD, has been elected to serve as the organization’s president. Founded in 1969, AAPL is dedicated to excellence in the practice, teaching, and research in forensic psychiatry. Forensic psychiatry is a medical subspecialty that includes research and clinical practice in the many areas in which psychiatry is applied to legal issues. With more than 1,900 members in North America and around the world, AAPL supports psychiatrists in their work within one of the many areas in which the mental health and legal system overlap.
Butler Hospital’s President and CEO since 1999, Dr. Recupero received a law degree from Boston College, and a medical degree from the Alpert Medical School of Brown University. Board certified in forensic psychiatry and addiction psychiatry, Dr. Recupero is a clinical professor of psychiatry at Brown’s medical school. She has written and lectured on a variety of topics including prevention of sexual harassment, substance abuse and marital violence, the effects of alcohol on women and children, and cyber medicine. |
