Mental Health, Addictions and Child Policy Groups Sponsor Candidate Forum for Rhode Island’s 1st and 2nd Congressional Seats
The organizations and individuals who make up Rhode Island’s Mental Health and Addiction Recovery Coalition and Rhode Island’s Children’s Policy are sponsoring a Congressional Candidates’ Forum on Tuesday, October 12, at Butler Hospital’s Ray Conference Center, 345 Blackstone Boulevard, Providence.
The forums will be conducted in two sessions: District 1 candidates, David N. Cicilline (D) and Kenneth A. Capalbo (I), will debate from 6 to 7:00 pm, and District 2 candidates, James R. Langevin (D), Mark S. Zaccaria (R), and John O. Matson (I), will debate from 7 to 8 pm.
This is the first time the candidates have come together to discuss their views on the state of mental health and addiction treatment services in Rhode Island. The candidates will be asked to state their positions on the federal Mental Health Parity and Addiction Equity Act (MHPAEA), national healthcare reform, behavioral health services for veterans and their families, housing support for persons with mental illness and/or chronic addictive disorders, and other important mental health issues.
