How long will I attend the program?
The average length of stay in the program is five to seven days but may vary based on individual needs. We ask that you make attendance in the program a priority during this time and that you not miss any days of the program.
What is a typical day like?
On a typical day, you will participate in four DBT education skills training sessions, two in the morning and two in the afternoon with 10–15 minute breaks in between. You will also meet one-on-one with your doctor and therapist. There is a one-hour break for lunch at noontime.
What should I bring with me?

- Insurance Card
- List of current medications
- Name and contact information for current outpatient providers
- Lunch (or you may use the cafeteria services)
- Many people find it helpful to bring a notebook
What happens when I'm ready to leave the program?
Your treatment team will help develop an after-care plan that's right for you. There is also a free six-month DBT Skills Class that meets once a week for two hours on Tuesdays (10 am-noon) and Thursdays (3:15 to 5 pm). Anyone who has recently completed the Women's Dialectical Behavior Therapy Program and has not attended the 6-month class previously is welcome.
Is lunch provided?
Lunch is not provided, but cafeteria services are available from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM. You may eat in the cafeteria or in the program space, where there is a room for you to relax and enjoy your lunch. You may also bring your lunch from home.
May I smoke?
Butler Hospital is a smoke-free, tobacco-free campus. Smoking is not permitted in the buildings or on the grounds. If you smoke or use tobacco products, the hospital will provide medications that may aid in smoking cessation or help to manage nicotine withdrawal symptoms. We appreciate your cooperation with our smoke-free policy.
May I use the phone?
A phone is available for your use during free time and non-group time. Out of respect for patient confidentiality, cell phones are not permitted in the Partial Hospital building.
Is transportation provided?
We do not provide transportation.
Is parking available?
Yes. Ample parking is available and is free of charge. Parking Lot C in the rear of the hospital is the closest one to the partial program, but you may part in any of the hospital's parking lots.
Does Butler offer other partial hospital programs?
Butler has three additional partial hospital programs, including an Alcohol & Drug Partial Hospital Program, an Integrated Therapies Program, and a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Program.
