The New Patient Care Center at Butler Hospital Will:

Build Greater Access

• Totals 49,000 square-feet, including an expanded Patient Assessment Services (PAS) center and a new 26-bed adult inpatient care unit.
• Offers an expanded PAS center more than double the size of the hospital's existing area, including private evaluation and exam rooms, two waiting areas – one a separate secured waiting area for highly acute patients – and greater privacy for patients and families.
• Houses a 26-bed adult inpatient care unit with private and semi-private rooms, enabling the hospital to have more beds available to accommodate patient acuity and meet increased need.

Enhance Standards of Care

• Brings a modern physical design and layout enabling improved patient flow and reduced wait time for patients being evaluated and/or admitted.
• Includes a high-tech electronic communications system that will enable up-to-the-minute communications between PAS staff and staff on the hospital's inpatient units.
• Features an adaptable layout on the inpatient unit that provides private space for individuals who require a quieter and more secluded setting.

• Serves as the largest private construction project underway in Rhode Island. 
• Employs contractor E.W. Burman, Inc. and individual subcontractors, totaling 150 - 200 workers. 
• Generates new positions, including nurses, mental health workers, social workers, physicians, housekeepers, and administrative support positions, upon opening. The new Patient Care Center will cost $17 million, a portion of which will be raised through fundraising. The new center is expected to open in the summer of 2013.
