Kathleen D. Askland, MD
is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry and Human Behavior at the Alpert Medical School of Brown University and has served as an attending psychiatrist in Psychiatric Assessment Services (PAS) of Butler Hospital in Providence, RI since 2007.
Dr. Askland’s primary research interests are in human neuropsychiatric genetics, computational genetics and bioinformatics. In 2009, she received a 5-year NIMH K08 Career Development Award to develop expertise in statistical genetics and to conduct research in the development and implementation of computational and genetic approaches in investigations of major psychiatric disorders.
She has served as a member of the Butler Hospital Physician Performance and Improvement Committee since 2008 and the Institutional Review Board since April, 2010. She provides direct clinical supervision to Brown psychiatric residents in PAS and provides didactic teaching to residents (PGY1-PGY4) in diagnosis and treatment of bipolar disorder, genetic epidemiology and psychiatric genetics.
