Martin J. Furman, MD
is the chief of Butler Hospital’s Intensive Treatment Unit and director of the hospital’s Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT) program. Dr. Furman has extensive expertise in treating the most serious psychiatric illnesses. He received the Award for Extraordinary Achievement and Outstanding Service in 1998 from Butler Hospital, The Outstanding Community Service Award from NRI Community Services in 2005, and the Robert J. Westlake Award for Physician Excellence at Butler Hospital in 2010. He served two-terms as President of Butler’s Medical Staff Association and as Associate Medical Director of Medical Staff Affairs.
A graduate of the University of the Witwatersrand Medical School, Johannesburg, South Africa, Dr. Furman completed his internship at Baragwanath Hospital, Johannesburg, South Africa and his residency at the Brown University School of Medicine.
