Psychology and Neuropsychology Departments

Location These programs are located on the second floor of the Blumer Building on the Butler Hospital campus. Visitors should park in Parking Lot A on the Butler campus and go to the switchboard in the main entrance for directions.
Hours By appointment. Length of appointment varies according to the reason and scope of the evaluation, and is individually determined.

The hospital has a team of professionally trained psychologists who can provide comprehensive psychological and neuropsychological assessments in the following clinics:

Child and Adolescent Clinic

  • Head injury, tumor, seizures, stroke.
  • Psychiatric disorders (obsessive compulsive disorder, bipolar, depression, etc.).
  • Attention and learning disorders.
  • Genetic disorders (Prader-Willi, mitochondrial, etc.).
  • Mental retardation, autism, pervasive developmental disorders.
  • Tourette's syndrome and other tic disorders.
  • Consultation to schools as needed.
  • Assessment of intelligence, cognition, personality, mood.
  • Behavioral problems affecting education and treatment.

Adult Clinic

  • Traumatic brain injury.
  • Stroke, tumor, seizure disorders.
  • Multiple sclerosis, toxic or infectious encephalopathy.
  • HIV-related cognitive dysfunction.
  • Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
  • Psychiatric symptoms with impaired cognition.
  • Post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
  • Pre- and post-intervention (neurosurgical, cardiac, psycho-pharmacologic) cognitive status examinations.
  • Evaluation of competence, employment/disability status, diagnostic clarification, treatment and rehabilitation planning, independent medical evaluations.

Memory Disorders Clinic

  • Alzheimer's disease and other dementias.
  • Mild cognitive impairment, early memory loss.
  • Parkinson's disease and other movement disorders.
  • Stroke and microvascular disease.
  • Patients needing comprehensive workups for memory disorders can be followed in our Memory Clinic, which provides multidisciplinary (neurologic, neuropsychologic) assessments.
