This program is a day-hospital program that treats women who are chronically suicidal and who meet the criteria for Borderline Personality Disorder. The Women’s Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) program combines individual therapy and group skills training to address the behavioral, emotional and cognitive patterns that underlie their problems in living.

The DBT program also treats women who are dealing with such problems and issues as:

  • Feeling suicidal much of the time
  • Hurting themselves to change the way they feel
  • Living chaotic, painful lives
  • Remaining depressed despite good treatment
  • Having spells of emotional “numbness” or dissociation
  • Feeling painfully empty or confused about who they are
  • Having fears of being abandoned
  • Feeling out of control of their behavior
  • Having trouble tolerating their emotions
  • Having trouble staying sober
  • Eating too much or too little
  • Being unable to stop thinking about a traumatic painful past
  • Having numerous psychiatric hospitalizations
  • Post traumatic stress syndrome

Various treatment options include:

  • Medication by a psychiatrist
  • Family education
  • Five-day partial hospital program
  • Individualized skills training for depression, anger management, anxiety and other problems during their partial hospital stay.

The multi-disciplinary team includes psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, nurses, and occupational therapists. They have considerable experience helping people and their families deal with these problems.
