The 2008 Butler Hospital Golf Challenge with Dana Quigley & Friends

The 10th Anniversary of the Butler Hospital with Dana Quigley and Friends Golf Challenge was a memorable event and raised over $225,000.

On the evening of June 16th, almost 250 people gathered at the new MGM Grand at Foxwoods to help Dana, his friends and family raise money for Butler Hospital. The attendees enjoyed cocktails and hors d’oeuvres during the silent auction, which saw competitive bidding for Red Sox Green Monster tickets, an autographed replica of Jeff Gordon’s racing car, and a Ping G10 Driver among other items.

The ballroom was filled with laughter and excitement as attendees mingled with Dana and Golf Pros Jim Thorpe, Ed Dougherty, Allen Doyle, Lonnie Nielson, John Jacobs, Paul Parajeckas, and Lee Danielian. Celebrities from the Boston Bruins, Don Marcotte and Ken Hodge, added more excitement to the crowd. Not to be outdone, Ronnie Lippett, Steve Nelson, John Smith, and Mosi Tatupu came to represent the New England Patriots.

After dinner, Master of Ceremonies and Sports Director at WPRI, Patrick Little shared his story of interviewing football legend Terry Bradshaw which led him to recognize his own battle with mental illness, a story which brought many in the audience to their feet.

On June 17th, after a luxurious stay, players were shuttled to Lake of Isle for breakfast and a clinic with Dana and the Pros. 18 holes on the North Course awaited the players, with selected teams teeing off with the Pros and celebrities. It was a beautiful day of golfing and fun. As tradition goes, Dana roamed the course to meet the foursomes, showing off his talent and posing for pictures with the teams.

The two-day event culminated with a fabulous Players’ Reception and Awards Ceremony where everyone enjoyed a delicious spread and spent more time with Dana and friends. Presenting Sponsor Greg Iannuccillo, who has provided with an unprecedented level of support and has introduced many of his family and friends to Butler, was surprised with a golf bag signed by Dana, the Pros and Celebrities.

Through all of the fun and excitement, many people learned about Butler Hospital’s mission of providing quality, psychiatric care in an atmosphere of dignity and respect while erasing the stigma attached to mental illness.

We are especially grateful to Dana and Angie Quigley, who through the years have dedicated their time and talent to make each tournament more special than the last.

We would also like to acknowledge the enthusiastic and tireless efforts of our Co-Chairs, Joe Recupero and Jeff Sparr, and our Golf Committee Members, Steve Carlino, Allen Cicchitelli, Greg Iannuccillo, Jennifer Sparr, Kekin Shah and Jim Stallman.

And, a special thank you to all of our participants, donors, and volunteers!
