On June 30th, the sun made a rare appearance, gracing the 11th Annual Butler Hospital with Dana Quigley and Friends Golf Challenge with a beautiful day. The tournament at Metacomet Country Club kicked off with a golf clinic hosted by Dana and his “Pro” friends, who showcased their talents.
Golfers soaked up the fair weather as they teed off with Dana. Birdie teams enjoyed 18 holes of golf with their celebrity players. Along the way, golfers participated in contest holes, raising more funds for the charity event. The fun continued at the Player’s Reception where a competitive silent and Chinese auction combined with a Matching Challenge kicked the night into high gear.
The festivity was paused to remember Mrs. Dorothy Quigley, Dana’s mother, and Mr. Robert H. Read, Dana’s brother-in-law, who supported the tournaments every year. Joe Recupero, Esq., and Patricia R. Recupero, J.D., M.D. offered a Matching Challenge up to $10,000 to establish the Dorothy Quigley Memorial Research Fund. This Challenge spurred the crowd into pledging $21,850 which more than doubled the Match. This endowed gift will support research initiatives at Butler while honoring Mrs. Quigley’s legacy.
Butler Hospital is grateful for the support of the players, celebrities, sponsors, and the Golf Committee. This event gets better every year due to the support and generosity of Dana and Angie Quigley, their family, and our Butler friends. In addition to establishing the Dorothy Quigley Memorial Research Fund, the tournament netted over $65,000 for the programs and services at Butler Hospital.
