2008 Real Stories Real Recoveries Luncheon

On April 24, 2008, award-winning actress Lorraine Bracco captivated an audience of 500 during Butler Hospital’s real stories, real recoveries luncheon held at the Westin Providence.

Lorraine Bracco, best known for her role as the psychiatrist, Dr. Jennifer Melfi, who treated New Jersey mafia heavyweight Tony Soprano on HBO’s hit series, The Sopranos. However, in real life Lorraine was the one that actually needed psychiatric treatment. During the luncheon, the attendees were captivated as Lorraine spoke about her journey in an honest and down to earth manner. She helped Butler Hospital diminish the stigma of mental illness and increase awareness by sharing her struggles with depression.

As Lorraine confessed to the audience about her denial and the hard times she faced for many years, she made it very clear that seeking treatment was the best thing she has ever done. By being brave enough to talk about her triumph over mental illness, Lorraine helped raise $85,000 for the programs and services at Butler Hospital.
Butler Hospital would like to thank Mr. John J. Palumbo, Event Chairman, and Mrs. Betty Capozzi and Mrs. Melinda Knight, Honorary Co-Chairs, for their efforts in making real stories, real recoveries with Lorraine Bracco a successful event.
