LifePlans

SHARE YOUR STORY. We need your help.

Have you struggled with thoughts of suicide or had a suicide attempt in the past?

Have you found positive ways to cope with emotional problems and stress since that time?

Could your experience provide hope and help to others?

LifePlans: Peers Providing Hope and Help

Researchers from Butler Hospital are producing a video series, called LifePlans, in which people with a history of suicide thoughts or a suicide attempt share their experience of overcoming these problems. They might share ways of coping that include:
  • Developing a personal safety plan
  • Identifying life values and goals
  • Learning effective coping skills for emotional problems or life stress
  • Getting support and help from loved ones and friends
  • Participating in mental health treatment and support groups

LifePlans videos are intended to be shown to other patients struggling with suicidal thoughts or behaviors to help them in their treatment and recovery process.

We are looking for people to be featured in the LifePlans videos.

We are looking for people who have been hospitalized with suicide thoughts or behaviors in the past, and who have since found some positive ways to cope with emotional problems and life stress. We are looking for people who are willing to share their story in order to help others.

The Process

If you are interested, the first phase of the study involves a brief phone interview to determine if you are eligible. Eligible participants will be invited to participate in a 1-hour, phone call or online videoconference with a member of the study staff. This first interview will be kept completely confidential and you will be compensated $40 for your time.

After we conduct these initial interviews with a number of participants, we will invite some of these participants back (if they agree) to be professionally filmed on camera.  This is a separate part of the study. These participants will be featured in the LifePlans videos.

Your participation in all parts of the study is always voluntary and will not affect the care that you receive at Butler Hospital.
