Project AIM (Alzheimer’s Imaging to Inform Modulation)

About the Study

This supplement will combine resources of the COBRE Center for Neuromodulation and Butler Hospital’s Memory and Aging Program to direct research towards cutting-edge individualized, neurocircuit based treatments for Alzheimer’s disease. The purpose of our research study is to learn more about the brain circuitry and other biological mechanisms involved in the development and progression of Alzheimer’s disease. Our goal is to clearly characterize and identify neurobiological targets to engage in future studies for the development of neuromodulatory treatment modalities for Alzheimer’s disease.

Eligibility Criteria Includes
  • Men and women between 55-80 years of age.
  • Adequate vision and hearing.
  • No history of brain injury, epilepsy, or stroke.
  • No current substance abuse.

Compensation/Reimbursement

You will be compensated for your effort and time.

More Information
What does the study involve?

Participants will engage in a phone screen to determine eligibility. After this, there will be a one-time assessment at Butler Hospital. After that assessment, you will be scheduled to receive an MRI scan at the Brown University Magnetic Resonance Facility (MRF). You may also receive a PET scan at a local facility.

Who can participate?

The ideal candidate will be a healthy volunteer without cognitive difficulties or a volunteer with a diagnosis of mild cognitive impairment (MCI).

Primary Principal Investigator

Dr. Nicole McLaughlin, PhD.
