The GROUP Study: Group Recovery Options in Community Practice

Seeking Extra Mental Health Support?

If you're managing a mental health condition, you may be able to join The GROUP Study. This study is offering group therapy at The Providence Center to help people feel supported, learn new skills, and connect with others.

Program Details

If you join the study, you will continue your usual care at The Providence Center, as this study is designed to add more support to your current treatment plan.

You'll be randomly placed (like flipping a coin) into one of two group therapy programs:

  • Mindfulness-based group therapy: Learn tools for managing stress and emotions, with optional activities you can try at home.
  • Your choice group therapy: Pick from existing therapy groups already available at The Providence Center.

Participation involves:

  • Meeting once a week for 12 weeks in a group therapy session.
  • Sharing your experiences and learning new ways to cope and recover.
  • Completing a few check-ins (interviews and short questionnaires) to track your progress over time.

Why Join This Study?

We are conducting this study because we want to learn which group therapy approaches are most helpful for people receiving care in community mental health settings. By joining, you'll receive support, and your experience may also help open doors for others to get the support they need in the future.

Eligibility: Who Can Join?

You may be a good fit if you:

  • Are 18 or older.
  • Are currently receiving care at The Providence Center.
  • Can speak and read English.
  • Have a qualifying mental health diagnosis (we'll help you figure this out together).
  • Are not currently practicing meditation on a regular basis.

Other Key Information

  • Cost: Free — there is no cost to join!
  • Compensation: You can receive up to $240 in gift cards for your time.
  • Screening: A short phone call is required to see if this study is right for you.
  • Assessments: Check-ins are conducted during and after the program, either in person or by phone.
